The Power Of Google Trends

Man, this is powerful stuff.

I’m talking about some new ways that you might not have heard of

that are popping up on-line.

Sure, they might have been awhile, but that doesn’t mean you and I were using them, now does it?

I know that most will tell ya that you gotta have a killer piece of software or something or other to be wildly successful making money on-line or to be able to run your business in circles around your competitors.

But,  I just don’t agree.

I mean, nothing beats hard work, sweat, tears, and Diet Coke and loads of coffee.

Unless you don’t know how to find a hungry audience for your product or service.

I get overwhelmed when looking at the options of market trends, customer data, but it all boils down to a few things:

1. People want to buy things they don’t need.

2. You can be the one to sell them what they want.

That’s basically it.

I know we like to over-complicate it, but that’s really the truth.

So, how do we find what people want to buy?
Research.

Take Google Trends for example.

Open up your browser real quick and go to www.trends.google.com

Type in a phrase, a product or a company name.

I chose Coke.

See the graphs, bars, and stuff going up and down?

That is from Google Trends. It seems steady but not really going up, see that spike though in the middle of ‘06? Weird.

Let’s try iPhone, OK?

Here’s the iphone results

See how it’s kind of spikes during the first of the year?

That’s because it was such a huge Christmas selling. It seems to dipping and then going up and down some. It’s a pretty stable product, I would say. Most of what you type in might not even show up on Google Trends, but you can get a keen sense of the market and how they think.

Tomorrow we’ll go over Ebay Pulse- instant niche markets!
