Here are a few easy ways to gain more friends on Facebook-not just adding “random” people who request you, but in gaining those 1,000 “True” Fans, like someone in the marketing field has said.

1,000 people (or less to start out with), who believe in your message, are passionate about you, and trade your ideas like baseball cards.

The first way to win more fans:

The first, and easiest way to win more true fans on Facebook is to get out of yourself and start embracing the social aspect of yes, social media. Think of Facebook like a big coffee-shop, and you have 10 minutes a day (or all day) to share stories, drop in on someone’s table, and share a coffee and a story for a moment or two.

Following me so far?

The facebook-as-coffeehouse thing was started I think by Chris Brogan, who related selling to a cafe-experience. It’s small, and warm.

And friendly. And this is where you sell.

Start by writing on other people’s walls, commenting on their opinions, likes, dis-likes, rants, photos and videos. Comment like 5 times over the course of a week on 10 or so folks profiles that you want to get to know or that you think could be an influence in the growth of your business.

If you give to them, chances are, they will, over time, be more than willing to give back to you when you start posting about your biz or interests on your wall.

Get it? It’s give-first, get later.

What are your thoughts on this? Does this work for you?

If you give first, and then post about yourself (on your fan page) 20% of the time, and other people 80% of the time, then you’ll start to see rewards. The main thing is, the conversations take awhile to get back to your table (your FB fan page) and that’s OK. It just takes a little time.

You can do it! Now, go take this strategy and give it 30 days. Then pass some of the good will (your new friends) off to your Twiitter page, blog,
website or Facebook fan page. Did it work? Let me know!
