Say what you want about the Boss: Overpaid, a blue-collared hero, or one of the best entertainers on the planet? Regardless of what you believe, my old buddy Vince Welsh said this: “If you can sell a million records, you must be doing something right”.
I think Vince was spot on, don’t you?
Let’s dive into the hidden ways Bruce Springsteen has gained a massive following and a treasured community.
Springsteen Gives His All
Whatever he is doing onstage, whether it was rocking seedy dive bars of the Jersey Shore, Philly and New York, Springsteen and the E Street Band never gave up. Ever. They always wanted to leave the audience completely drained of energy..their goal was if the audience was still standing, then they still had work to do.
As time went on, and the shows hit the 3 hour mark, they still would go out and give them even more passion, drive, energy and above all, great rock n roll. In your blog, website, or 9-5 job, are you giving your all? Maybe that’s why you aren’t seeing the results you want. Something to think on, for sure.
He Stuck With What Worked For His Audience & Him
Rarely changing musical styles, accept from the dramatic The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle to the more hard-edged sound of Born To Run, Springsteen found a storytelling vein that worked for him AND also resonated with his ever-increasing audience. He told stories that mattered to people, that the everyday man could believe in.
When he got rich and famous, he didn’t start writing about problems his audience couldn’t understand. Notice how so many artists today whine about issues that 99% of us don’t relate to? That’s called relevancy. And as Bruce knows, you need to keep it intact–it’s like gold!
He Re-Invented Stories The Audience Loved
Down the line, Springsteen has done a lot of acoustic or piano renditions of popular songs like Born In The USA, The River, Hungry Heart, Thunder Road, and so on. He took a story that his audience was familar with, and re-told the lines in a new setting or with a new sound. How can you do that with a newsletter that you company has? Or a product that is your # 1 seller? Can you re-package it as a digital product with a how-to guide? Give me the usual but with a little flair thrown in-a contest to win prizes or a free consultation from you would be nice
Putting It All Together
So, you’ve seen how Bruce gives his all, doesn’t really change what works for him and his audience, and how he re-invents his sounds. Which one resonates with you–which one can you put into effect tomorrow to help you business grow even more profitable? Let me know in the comments.
