Crazed Elevator Attacks College Student? A Study Of Headline Psychology

by Lawton Chiles on August 4, 2009

OK, that never happened.

But what DID happen was, curiosity was aroused. How did someone get attacked by an elevator? And why?

The elevator could have broken and the college student could have fallen and hurt himself–there are many reasons but the real reason the headline works is that, the usual way to write it would be:

College Student Attacks Elevator

Right?

But, this is reversed and a elevator brutally punished a real live person.

How can you use this tactic in your work or website?

(Note: Don’t make up stories. People can get mad :)

These are all questions that the headline pulled from your brain.

Or you might have had other questions.
