The One Fatal Attitude That’s Sabotaging Your Sales

by Lawton Chiles

Hey– Bad news for those who opted in for the Email marketing book. For some reason the link was down (my fault) and if you didn’t get a copy, I’m going to be resending everyone an updated version. So, sorry for making you wait, but it’ll be worth it :)

I also wanted to write to you about…something scary…headline writing!

http://www.talkmarketingnow.com

One of the reasons I wanted to write you today is because I think so many people out there in the marketplace have a really hard time writing their own headlines. And you know what? It’s not your fault. I know a lot of people say that’s not her fault and they might really mean well by that but I really mean it’s not your fault. You were never trained or taught how to write advertising in a persuasive way, especially if you’re thinking about your writing from the aspect of “This has to be really great or else I’m can fail or I have to come up with the right words and phrases that are unique.”

That’s the attitude that leads to more failure.

…the kind of thinking that says, “I have to write in a way that impresses other people”. Here’s the truth– If you know a few unique and simple tricks, you too can write headlines that will dramatically improve your sales.

That’s the truth!

Of course, your results might not be as astonishingly good as if you hired a professional writer who does it 3 to 5 hours a day, but the fact is–if you apply a few simple principles to your marketing–it can make a world of difference.

People are afraid about looking foolish in front of their peers.

In fact, polls have revealed that people fear dying less they fear giving a speech in person. Since most of the work in advertising, business, music and movies is borrowed or adapted on other successful ideas, your headline writing shouldn’t be any different. That’s why today I’m going to be breaking down a of my Headline Magic formula.

I agree that fear of looking foolish in front of our peers is a big reason many people do not take ANY action. I also think the fear of what people WON’T tell them is also big. It seems many people are unwilling to ask for constructive feedback, and in most cases people won’t give it for fear of offending someone. Great topic, Lawton…. I wish I could attend, I would be curious to know what your discussion of the fatal attitude will entail. Unfortunately, won’t be at my computer. Hopefully you’ll be recording?

Hey, yes I will try my best to record it or get you a handout.

Thanks for the note–I agree that fear holds us back, and mostly it is fears that never come true. Luckily, we can move ahead of these fears. My reliance on God shows me I don’t have to be “strong” enough to fight fears or insecurities all on my own. :) f
